This Chill Cafe Near Bukit Timah Hill Is 'Where Off Begins'
I've been trying to stay more active lately, especially since I live a rather sedentary life as a software engineer. One of my favourite activities is hiking Bukit Timah Hill with friends. Since the entrance is near Beauty World MRT, cafés in this area are go-to spots for hikers on weekend mornings.
I've previously visited The Signature Patisserie and Breakfast Grill at Lorong Kilat, and this time, my friend and I decided to try a new café called "Offsite". It's located in The LINQ building, right next to Beauty World MRT.
Offsite is a cosy café with limited seating, making it more suitable for solo visits or small groups rathern than big gatherings. Their signature items include sandwiches (or "sarnies"), banoffee pie, and tofu hummus.
I love their little corner with funky decor as well. Here's what we tried during our visit:
Burrata Deli Sarnie
burrata, prosciutto, sundried tomato, apple, pesto, balsamic, EVOO, red cherry jam, arugula
💸 SGD 19.00
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5/5
I love sundried tomatoes and burrata, so just from reading the menu, this already sounded delicious. I didn't know what EVOO was at first, but a quick Google search told me it stands for "Extra Virgin Olive Oil".
Unfortunately, these sandwiches took quite a while to arrive—about 20 minutes after our latte and banoffee pie were served—so keep that in mind if you're planning to have this before your drinks or desserts.
That said, the flavours were refreshing and appetising.
The sundried tomato, apple, balsamic and red cherry jam added a tangy profile that complemented the savoury pesto, burrata and prosciutto very well.
The portion was decent for two people as well, and it was cut into halves for sharing.
The sandwich is served cold, which I believe is intentional to preserve the freshness of the ingredients, especially the burrata and prosciutto. Personally, I tend to prefer warm and toasted sandwiches, as I would've loved a bit more crunch and warmth from the sourdough. Still, it's a solid sarnie overall!
Banoffee Pie
💸 SGD 8.00
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
This was actually the main reason I wanted to visit Offsite, as I've never tried banoffee pie before. Banoffee pie is typically made with a graham cracker crust, toffee filling, banana slices, and whipped cream. That sounds delicious!
Verdict: it was worth the trip!
The whipped cream wasn't overly sweet or cloying, and the banana slices were soft and sweet. Since I had no idea what to expect, the crunchy, slightly savoury crust was a pleasant surprise.
The only downside for me was the toffee layer as it leaned a bit too salty for my liking. I liked that it added contrast (some saltiness to complement the sweetness), but the saltiness was just a little too distinctive.
White Coffee
💸 SGD 5.50
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
The white coffee had a nice nutty profile and was creamy and smooth. A pretty solid cup of latte overall.
Offsite is a nice café with a decent variety on the menu, and I can see myself returning in the future. Just note that seating is limited, and you'll likely have to wait during weekend mornings.
