Dweji Gomtang

I recently started watching Culinary Wars (Season 2), and there was a master hidden among the Black Spoon contestants (among many other masters), Chef Ok Dongsik. He is known for selling Dweji Gomtang (Korean pork bone soup) in New York City, and his restaurant is always fully booked.

The Dweji Gomtang looked so good that I wished I could try it… until I realised I'd actually had it before at Onggi in Suntec City, Singapore! No need to fly to NYC after all. (Just kidding, I'd love to try Chef Ok's restaurant one day - especially since it's listed in the MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand.)

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5/5

A warm, clear broth with a natural sweetness and savouriness from pork, dates, goji berries, scallions, and more. This dish feels like a warm hug, especially if you’re feeling under the weather.

However, I’m not sure if this is intentional, but it was slightly under-seasoned. Perhaps that’s why it’s served with salt and pepper so you can season it to your liking? Either way, that was the only thing that took away a few points for me.

🐮 Beef Ugeoji Tang

💸 SGD 19.90
⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟 5/5

A spicy beef-based broth simmered with napa cabbage and tender beef. Compared to the clear Dweji Gomtang, this one has a much more vibrant and sharper flavour profile, with a kick of spice.

I can’t usually handle much spice, but this was manageable and absolutely delicious. I enjoyed it even more than the Dweji Gomtang, hence the full 5/5 rating!

Overall, I love the heart-warming dishes here and am a repeat customer. I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you're in the Suntec City area.
